365 postcards

My Postcard Project: I am doing my part to save the United States Postal Service (USPS). It's near bankruptcy. It will have to close thousands of post offices across the country and lay off many workers. I believe a strong postal service is vital for a strong democracy. And if more people sent postcards instead of e-cards, the world might be a happier place. To build awareness and encourage connection, I set a goal of sending at least 365 postcards in 2012. This year, I'm aiming for 500. If you get one from me, it will have a number indicating how far I've gotten in my goal. If this project inspires you, join me and let me know! You can get postcard partners from Postcrossing or Swap-bot. (Let me know if there are others!)

Global Forever Stamp
The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently released the global forever stamp. Currently, the value is $1.10, but it will take the current value of one ounce of international mail. It's the first circular stamp issued by the postal service. Right now, I love the design, but I am sure that after six months or so, it will grow tiresome. I wish there were multiple designs for international postage!
The USPS describes the design as follows:
The stamp showcases the beauty of planet Earth with an artistic rendering — a composite of images created from satellite and 3D computer technology data. In this image, the Atlantic Ocean is flanked by North and South America, Africa and parts of Europe. Art director William J. Gicker selected this depiction of Earth by Italian artist Leonello Calvetti. Greg Breeding designed the stamp.USPS Global Forever Stamp Press Release
