I Want What I Want

I Want What I Want

Postmarked 23 January 1912
Crothersville, IN

Message:
Hello, J.G. - Why don't you write I am waiting for an ans. to my letter. -Elizabeth
On first glance, this is a nice postcard. A photograph of a lovely young couple framed by an intricate floral border. But then, the caption: "I Want What I Want When I Want It." The caption indicates that the couple may not be so loving, and the woman not so willing, suggesting if not rape, an unwanted persistence.

Funny to see that the message, then, is written by a persistent girl or woman asking J.G. to please give her an answer. But what was the question?

You'd Be In "Stitches"

you'd be in stitches

Postmarked 25 June 1945
New York, NY

Message:
6/24/43 / Dear Roger, / How are you doing? Long time no hear except grapevine method. When I told Dad, Smyrna, he thought Smyrina Turkey. He travelled [sic] there while he was in the service. / Glad you liked our news! Enjoyed your P.S. to Mother. / What are you doing now? Would enjoy a word or two. / Lots of luck from all of us here. / Love, Pegs
Searching for "Roger W. Overton," I could only find one mention, in a Long Island newsletter. If this is the same Roger, he died in 2009 at 85, having been a Staff Sergeant in the Army from 1943-1945. Mr. Overton of Patchogue was an insurance salesman, as well as a member of the Pactchogue Fire Department. Mr. Overton did wed a woman named Margaret - Pegs, perhaps?

The Hammock Is Right There Too

Courting

Postmarked 1907

Message:

FRONT: It may look O.K. from here but the hammock is right there too. BACK: I hope you haven't been waiting over a week for an answer. Well if you have here it is. And just look at this on the other side. Eh! F.
I think sitting in a tree would be George's perfect date. Not because of the "Aimee and Georgie sitting in a tree" connotations but because he likes being outside in the middle of nowhere. The police officer throws a wrench in things, though.
