THE BALANCED ROCK is one of the wonders of the Pike's Region. It is located just west of the Garden of the Gods in the section of peculiar rock formation known as Mushroom Park. The huge boulder weighing many tons rests of a base of but a few feet seemingly almost ready to topple but continues to stand.

The Interweb says the formation has been reinforced with concrete, but still stands (as of December 2010).

Back: The Old Scotchman, also sometimes called Harry Lauder, lies to the left of the main road shortly after leaving the main group of rocks and traveling west. It is pointed out for its close resemblance to a dower old Scotchman in his Scotch cap.

I picked this postcard for today because it was postmarked exactly fifty years ago from the Boy Scout Jamboree! Also, it's funny, from the sweet message to the nerdy man on the postcard front. I can't imagine a young man using pink ink - this must have faded from red.

Vista of Williams Canon

It is hot and humid in Ithaca this week, so the serene view in this postcard is very welcoming. I also tend to like views framed by windows, and it's not something I've seen often in view postcards.
