Message:
Tell mother if she has written to me at any other point than Dallas to let me know by letter addressed to Dallas
This is a large artificial lake and seems queer down here as you see so little water, all the rivers being dry now.
Daddy
I think Ardmore City Lake was renamed by the time I was born, and we did most of our lake-related recreational activities  at Lake Murray. When my grandparents first started dating, though, they went to the city lake on group outings:

The Weather Does Not Seem to Make Up Its Mind

Postmarked 8 July 1941
Lake George, New York

Postcard Caption:
Looking North from the Fort William Henry Hotel, Lake George, N.Y.
Postcard Message:
Hello Fred: / We are here again. We were hoping to see you at the Alpine this week. The place is still beautiful but the weather does not seem to make up its mind rain or shine. / Remember Frances and Steve Cali
The posh Fort William Henry Hotel opened in 1855, and it was such a popular destination that new owners dramatically increased the guest capacity. Sadly, in 1909, a fire destroyed the hotel. Two years later, a new, smaller, but still luxurious hotel was opened. Changing tastes and owners couldn't keep the hotel alive, though, and it was torn down in the late 1960s. Just ten years ago, a consortia of Lake George business people decided to open a convention center. To handle the associated demand, the group built a new hotel with designs echoing that of the 1911 building. The current hotel website has a gallery of vintage postcards from the Fort William Henry Hotel.

Waterworks Park | Detroit, Michigan

Detroit - Waterworks Park

Postmarked 19 May 1908
Detroit, Michigan

Message:
Reminds me so much of Juo K's palace (?) / C.
Detroit architect Joseph E. Sparks won a competition to design the city's watertower. Fully functional by 1879, the tower also doubled as an observation deck and the surrounding 110-acre park drew many tourists. By 1895, new technology made the tower obsolete, but it remained vibrant as an attraction through the 1920s, though it was shut during World Wars I and II due to security concerns. In 1945, the structure was ruled unsafe and closed to the public and was demolished in 1962. Although some areas of the park were remained open, today the entire park is closed to visitors.

There is a Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and the recipient was undoubtedly a patient there. I wonder what treatments he was taking - and if he ever got to go hang out by the lake. A picture of the current Rochester skyline is here.

Boating on Beautiful Kentucky Lake

POSTCARD: Boating on Beautiful Kentucky Lake

Uncirculated
Curteich, Issued 1950

Or should it be boating on Kentucky Lake with beauties? Searching for information on this postcard, I found a black and white chrome version that is available on cardcow.com. When George and I went to New Hampshire with Diane and Shae, we took a boat tour in a cigarette boat that reminds me a lot of the type of boat on this postcard.

KentuckyLake.com explains the importance of the lake:
Kentucky Dam creates the largest manmade lake in the eastern United States. It backs up the Tennessee River for 184 miles and creates a lake that stretches south across the western tip of Kentucky and nearly the entire width of Tennessee. At maximum normal operating level, Kentucky Lake covers 160,300 acres.
More important than the project's size are the jobs it performs. Kentucky Dam is the spigot that TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) uses to help control floods on the lower Ohio and Mississippi rivers; it is the gateway to the Tennessee River waterway and is a major generating plant in the TVA power system
Of course, it also provides opportunities for recreation and is home to the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, multiple state parks, national wildlife areas, and more.
