Although land had been promised to the Native Americans in exchange for their land in Southeastern Oklahoma, an 1889 proclamation opened the district to non-Indian settlers who, on April 22, 1889, could claim 160 acres of the coveted country.

Go Green: Earth Week 2011

Earth Week is April 17-23, 2011! Earth Day itself is observed on April 22. While my postcard hobby might not be my most eco-friendly activity, I was still happy to see the new "Go Green" stamps from the United States Postal Service.

Each stamp provides an easy suggestion for changing behavior to be more earth-friendly. Plus, I think they are cute.

While I know there is a lot more I could do for the environment, here are the things George and I do on a regular basis:

  • Eat a veg*n diet
  • Use reusable shopping bags
  • Minimize short trips for errands
  • Change the thermostat
  • Compost
  • Use long-life lightbulbs
  • Share a single car
  • Buy organic and local food when possible
  • Buy earth-friendly cleaning products
We are always looking for new ways to live a more sustainable lifestyle! What about you?

New Brighton Pier

New Brighton Pier - Liverpool UK

The Interweb indicates Liverpool's New Brighton Pier was built in the late 1800s next to the ferry pier. In the early 1920s, it closed for renovation, opening again in 1931. After the ferry ceased operation in the mid 20th century, traffic diminished at the pavilion, and it was demolished in the late 1970s.

Hard, Stern, Unforgiving Old Mug, but It's Me All the Same

Old Mug

Message:
You have here the picture you wrote about.
I do not like to have my picture "drawed"
but as you reported(?) --
Hard. Stern. Unforgiving old mug isn't it but it's me all the same.
I did not imagine I'd come upon another vintage altered postcard after posting this one. In a box of postcards from my in-laws, though, I found this treasure!
