Sunday Stamps: Australia, Then and Now

The theme for today's Sunday Stamps is something useful or practical. I found this stamp on a postcard I recently received, and though I thought about selecting a stamp of a building or train, I liked this one best. I use my iPod almost every day! Although I did grow up in the days of record players, and had albums like Thriller by Michael Jackson and Can't Slow Down by Lionel Ritchie. (Even earlier, I had 8-tracks of the Grease soundtrack, Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell, and several Donnie and Marie tapes.

Famous Spiral Bridge

Postcard Caption:
FAMOUS SPIRAL BRIDGE 1895-1951 an original painting by local artist, Pat Fox, in 1968. Now owned and displayed at Hast'n Inn Restaurant, south on Highway 61, in Hastings, Minnesota.
The blog, Looking Back on the History of Hastings, describes the crowds that came to the 1895 dedication of the bridge which crossed the Mississippi. After World War II, a replacement bride more suitable for automobile traffic was erected, and the spiral bridge was soon demolished.

Fall Creek Gorge

Postcard Caption:
Lower Bridge over Fall Creek Gorge, Ithaca, N.Y.
Because of today's roads and fences, it's hard for me to get to a vantage point where I can take a good picture of Fall Creek Gorge, but the Cornell University website has a nice contemporary photograph of the falls here.

The gorge is beautiful, but it's also been the site of many student deaths, accidental and by suicide (Cornell Sun). As a result, Cornell University and the City of Ithaca have been working on a plan to provide barriers.

Very Truly Yours

Uncirculated

Postcard Caption:
Peterson, N.J. Court House
Postcard Message:
Very truly yours, Will
This looks to be from the transition period between undivided and divided postcards since there is the small margin on the image side of the card for a message, as well as a space for a message on the back of the card.

When I was young, my grandparents would take me on a road trip every summer. We went to Disneyland, Disneyworld, Texas, Colorado. I had such fun! My grandma always liked to go on tours, but my grandpa did not, and he and I would tease grandma for wanting to join them. Now, I am the first person to sign up for tours when I am on vacation (and now, my husband scoffs at them!).
