Uncirculated
Published by J.R. Pennington
Ardmore, Okla.

Postcard Caption:
Ardmore and the surrounding area have played an important part in the history of the Southwest, being originally a part of the Louisiana Purchase made in 1803. It became part of the Indian Territory in 1835 and of Oklahoma in 1907. Ardmore is the county seat of Carter County, having a a population of 16,886. Resources: Oil and Agriculture.
Family lore states that my grandparents met at a drugstore soda counter in downtown Ardmore after World War II, near the time this postcard would have been published. An earlier postcard from the same vantage point is the subject of my October 1, 2010 post. Many of the buildings are still standing along main street, though their occupants--and facades--have changed over time.
