Hope the "Little Girl" is asleep and the Mail Man won't ring the bell and wake the child up. / WillAlthough land had been promised to the Native Americans in exchange for their land in Southeastern Oklahoma, an 1889 proclamation opened the district to non-Indian settlers who, on April 22, 1889, could claim 160 acres of the coveted country.

The message on this is so amusing. I posted a similar card some time ago..it really does give you a sense of what that rush for land must have been like.

What a great card. Wonder how much of Oklahoma is still in the name of descendants of those who obtained land at that time. Happy PFF and Happy Easter, too.

Very nice postcard. It would be great to hear stories from those that raced to stake their claim. Of course, if I wasn't so momentarily lazy, I would look it up.
