Be a Good Girl for Mummy

Atlanta Biltmore

Postmarked 5 February 1954
Atlanta, Georgia

Hi Bag of Beans: / This is where Daddy is staying while in Atlanta on the convention. Daddy misses you, Sweet. Be a good girl for mummy. Help her all you can. / Love, Daddy
The Atlanta Biltmore opened in 1924 backed in part by Asa Candler from the Coca-Cola family. In an upscale neighborhood, the "apartment hotel" hosted such luminaries as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and Bette Davis. In the 1960s, however, the Biltmore couldn't survive increased competition from hotels located in downtown Atlanta. Until 1997, it had a series of owners who couldn't make the site work. Now, however, it is home to condos and is available for special functions.

I love the message on the back! It seems to me that really early cards (pre-1920) tend to have messages that are more formal than those found on later ones like this, where they're often more personal in nature. The deeply personal messages really offer an interesting peek at the past. Thanks for sharing, Aimee!
