Sunday Stamps: Cow

I love farm animals, so thought I'd share this cow stamp from Canada. I couldn't not include the beautiful Mona Lisa rendition from my swap partner!

University of Chicago School Spirit

See similar University of Chicago postcards on my February 19, 2012, March 4, 2012, and March 27, 2012 posts. These school spirit postcards amuse and mystify me since we lacked school spirit when I attended the university in the early 1990s. This particular card is funny to me because of the disproportionately large bosoms on the UC girl.

Taos Pueblo

Postcard Caption
213-A CORNER IN TAOS PUEBLO, TAOS, N.M. The white blanket worn by this Taos Indian contrast sharply with the brown adobe walls of ancient Taos Pueblo, located in northern New Mexico. Taos Indians wear white blankets in summer and red and blue blankets in winter. Silhouetted against the sky on the tops of the houses at sundown, they make unforgettable pictures.
Postcard Message:
These are the last cards I have right now. But will get some more when they get some late ones in. P.S. Mom I forgot to tell  you I heard a few more -- of --- --- again. J.T.
The Taos Pueblo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Historic Landmark. Currently, 150 people live there full-time. I love the adobe walls, which are consistently maintained with layers of mud.

Main Street - Ardmore, Oklahoma

Uncirculated
Published by J.R. Pennington
Ardmore, Okla.

Postcard Caption:
Ardmore and the surrounding area have played an important part in the history of the Southwest, being originally a part of the Louisiana Purchase made in 1803. It became part of the Indian Territory in 1835 and of Oklahoma in 1907. Ardmore is the county seat of Carter County, having a a population of 16,886. Resources: Oil and Agriculture.
Family lore states that my grandparents met at a drugstore soda counter in downtown Ardmore after World War II, near the time this postcard would have been published. An earlier postcard from the same vantage point is the subject of my October 1, 2010 post. Many of the buildings are still standing along main street, though their occupants--and facades--have changed over time.

Sunday Stamps

Today's Sunday Stamps theme is cats, dogs, and other pets, so I couldn't resist featuring this stamp of Norman and Walter, my two pug mixes. Water is eight years old, and Norman is two. They are sweet, hilarious, and bring me great joy.

Sunday Stamps

I have been admiring this stamp since I received it on a postcard a few weeks ago, so it seemed fitting to include it as my entry in this week's Sunday Stamps since the theme is art, music, and dance. The illustration was created by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), a well-known Czech Artist celebrated for his art nouveau images. The Mucha Museum, in Prague, features over 100 of his pieces. The Zodiac, reproduced on the stamp, was originally created for a calendar.
